The biggest surprise of the SDTweetUp was the turnout. Expecting about 30-35 attendees, organizer Jenn Van Grove welcome nearly double the amount of people she was expecting at one of the best social events of the year to hit San Diego.
Approximately 75 people attended the event at Oggi’s in Mission Valley. Food and refreshments were sponsored by ATenSyndicate.
There was an abundance of networking opportunities for those who showed up. From Qualcomm to funded startups, agencies to freelances, there were many opportunities for people to connect.
The Twitterati was also in attendance. @NateRitter and @RyanKuder lent their celebrity status to the event.
Jenn Van Grove (@jbruin) sees the event as so much more than people talking about “What are you doing?”. The growth of the event is proving how important Twitter is for networking. Jenn says, “These are the people you need to get to know if you want to get an innovative web or marketing project off the ground.”

Jenn is focused on having a similar if not greater turnout for the next TweetUp. Contact her if you’d like to sponsor or know of a venue that would be perfect for about 75-100 people. Jenn is working behind the scenes on some really exciting and powerful things to come for the TweetUp. I get the feeling, this is only the beginning!

To be fair, I really had very little to do with the success of the event. Right now Twitter is the “It” thing, and the web/tech scene in San Diego is growing and connecting exponentially via Twitter.
I do want to say that I was blown away by the attendance - I would have never been able to predict that the turnout would have been so great, thankfully the location could accommodate the crowd.
I’ll be blogging about the event on my blog InsidetheRabbitHole.com and there will be a Twitter roll and event highlights, as well as teaser for something big in the works.

Fantastic event. Interesting that with just the avatar and tweets it made conversation so much easier in person. Twitter was just that extra ice breaker that made the event so much more fun. Before twitter I probably would have thought twice about attending an event “cold”. Looking forward to what is up and coming!

Sounded like fun. Too bad circumstances conspired against me and I wasn’t able to attend. Hopefully, I’ll be able to see you guys at the next one!
