Excellent post! I have huge respect for Alex. He is such a great guy who truly cares about other people and their startup. When Clever Tools was looking for office space, we took a lot of the Spreckles Building downtown. I saw Goowy was there and immediately decided I wanted an office space there. We got to the point where we had multiple VCs coming to us and we needed to decide on whether or not to pursue that sort of funding. Alex was kind enough to accept my offer for lunch at the Yard House across the street to get his feedback and advice.

We ate and had a great conversation. He challenged me with questions I had not thought of. Then he really zoned in and asked exactly what I want. Do I want to flip the company, make money, and move on to the next thing? Or do I want to build a company and enjoy and have it be profitable and not go down the selling route? I knew I would rather work hard and have fun with my company instead of taking major funding in the hopes of having some sort of exit strategy. So, we took an angel investor instead, for less money, but someone who shared our vision of a sustained company. Sort of the same thing Alex did when he took Cuban's offer over other people. After that, he wouldn't let me pay for lunch even though I invited him!

Alex was always welcoming and helped me out with a lot of things- among them recommending CT to Digital Telepathy. He always told me I was more than welcome to ask for help or come talk. To someone of a successful startup telling a little guy that, it meant a lot. I am extremely grateful for all Alex and Goowy did for me and extremely happy they got acquired.
